Woodstock Municipal Special Election - Ward 6

Purpose: The City of Woodstock will be holding a Municipal Special Election on September 21st, from 7 am to 7 pm for the purpose of filling the unexpired term of Council Member Ward 6, Steve Faris. The term of office for this seat will expire on December 31, 2011.

Qualifying: Potential candidates may qualify in the office of the City Clerk located at the Woodstock Annex at 12453 Hwy 92 on the following dates/times.

Monday: 8/30 – 8:30 am to 5 pm
Tuesday: 8/31– 8:00 am to 5 pm
Wednesday: 9/1 – 8:00 am to 5 pm

The qualifying fee for this position is $270. All fees are non-refundable and are due and payable at time of qualifying. A pauper’s affidavit may be filed for candidates who cannot afford to pay the qualifying fee.
Council Candidate Requirements: Be a resident of the City of Woodstock, in the ward in which you are qualifying, for one year, as of the date of the election.

All Candidates
• Be a registered voter.
• All public monies must be accounted for.
• Candidate must never have been convicted and sentenced for fraudulent violation of election laws, malfeasance in office, or felony involving moral turpitude or conviction of domestic violence under the laws of this State or any other State of the United States, unless the candidate’s civil rights have been restored and at least ten years have elapsed, from the date of completion of the sentence, without a subsequent conviction of another felony involving moral turpitude.
• Candidate must complete a Financial Disclosure Statement; Notice of Candidacy; Campaign Committee and/or Campaign Contribution form.
• Candidate must pay the appropriate qualifying fee or file a pauper’s affidavit.
• Be 21 years of age or older.
• Must attend Newly Elected Officials Training as soon as it is available.

Before potential candidates accept any campaign contributions, they must file a Declaration of Intent to Accept Campaign Contributions Form, DOI Form, with the City Clerk stating their intent to accept such contributions. All contributions must be accounted for in writing as to who gave the contribution, the amount (no matter how small), the date received and whether it was cash, check or in-kind contribution; otherwise it is an illegal/anonymous contribution. To register a campaign committee, complete FORM RC.

The voter registration deadline is August 23, 2010. You may register at http://voter.cherokeega.com. Voter registration forms are also available at the Library, High Schools and City Hall.
