Academy Street Theatre Group to hold auditions

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- Cherokee County's Academy Street Theatre Group will hold auditions next week for two upcoming productions.

Students in grade 2-12 are invited to try out for Not-So-Grimm Tales and Oklahoma!

Auditions will be held Monday, Mar. 9 and Tuesday, Mar. 10 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. both days. They will be at River Ridge High School.

Rehearsals for both shows begin Mar. 19; Not-So-Grimm Tales will run May 22 and 23, and Oklahoma! will run June 4-6.

'Redneck' baker to visit metro Atlanta

(WXIA) -- "The American Baking Competition" finalist Francine Bryson has published her first cookbook, Blue Ribbon Baking from a Redneck Kitchen.

Bryson will be in metro Atlanta next week to promote the cookbook.

Blue Ribbon Baking is full of "Southern charm and sass," not to mention the coveted recipes Bryson learned from her "great-granny, granny, nana and mama." Highlights include upside-down apple pie, lemon squares and soda pop cake.

Bryson will be at FoxTale Book Shoppe (105 East Main Street, Woodstock) on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m., and Books-A-Million in The Avenue at Peachtree City on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.

Teen places third in international art contest

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- A Woodstock High School student placed third in an international competition for budding graphic artists.

Ryan Swiger's artwork was well received in the 2014 International Kepler Art of Discovery Contest. This year's theme revolved around planets that have not yet been discovered.

Thousands of students from around the world entered the contest.

Oliver North to sign new novel at FoxTale Book Shoppe

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Lt. Colonel Oliver L. North, USMC Ret. is making one of only two independent bookstore visits nationwide to FoxTale Book Shoppe on Saturday, June 14 at 7 p.m.

North will be midway through his book tour for his new novel, Counterfeit Lies, when he stops at FoxTale Book Shoppe. Due to his tight tour schedule, purchase of Counterfeit Lies will be required to attend the event and non-posed photos will be permitted. North will personalize as well as sign books.

"We are thrilled that Colonel North will be at FoxTale.  This is huge for us, for Woodstock and the surrounding area.  From what we've been told, visitors to Downtown Woodstock will not be able to miss his wrapped tour bus. We anticipate at least 500 people will attend this exciting book event," FoxTale co-owner Ellen Ward said.
