WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- The Spanish Club at Woodstock's Mill Creek Middle School is expanding its community service well beyond Cherokee County.

The student members are raising money and collecting supplies for orphans in the Dominican Republic.

"I want my students to make a difference in the lives of others, and this year, they will be reaching out to children far away from home," Spanish Club sponsor Debbie Lionetti said. "The Mill Creek Spanish Club isn't just about the language. It's about helping others while having fun."

Lionetti, who teaches Spanish at the school, added that her goal is for club members to do much more than simply study the Spanish language.

Mill Creek Spanish Club members include Larry Bell, McKenna Bewley, Ashley Broady, Katie Chadwick, Lilli Collins, Jack Detrick, Patricia Helfrick, Itzayana Juarez, Tracy Kasing, Lauren Maguire, Casey Martinez, Alex McMath, Emily Moore, Thao Ngo, Callie O'Bryant, Nicole Saravia, Rebecca Slaten, Caroline Trahant, Emma Visser, Chase Warden and Abby Webster.
