WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- An 18-year-old woman was charged with forgery and identity theft at a Cherokee County bank after she was arrested in Tifton, Ga.

Investigators said Megan Leigh Walker deposited two fraudulent checks totaling $1,812.60 into a third party account at Ameris Bank in Woodstock on Aug. 31. The checks were in a purse that had been stolen from a woman's car in Jekyll Island.

Walker, who is from Ashburn, Ga. near Albany, also withdrew $600 from the same bank account.

She was arrested Sept. 6 while attempting to defraud another victim from Valdosta.

Walker was charged with three counts of first degree forgery and three counts of identity fraud. She is being held in the Tift County Jail.
