Man caught burglarizing Woodstock Goodwill

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Woodstock police caught a burglary suspect in the act Wednesday morning.

The suspect, 24-year-old Karim Tawfik, was discovered at around 2:50 a.m., hiding in a clothing bin filled with purses inside the Goodwill on Highway 92.

Cherokee County police said two officers responded to an alarm at Goodwill. When they arrived, they spotted a bay door partially open. An Acworth K9 unit eventually found Tawfik inside the bin.

Tawfik was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, obstruction and possession of tools for the commission of a crime. He is being held in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office has captured all three suspects in the shooting death of 47-year-old Christopher Pierce, who was found Sunday evening inside his Misty Hollow Way home.

John Michael Taylor, 27, of Acworth and Krystle Gail Taylor, 27, of Dawsonville were taken into custody Tuesday evening at a house in Dawsonville.

The third suspect, 28-year-old Benson Kyle Lloyd of Jasper, was taken into custody Wednesday while hitting golf balls at the PGA Tour Superstore in Kennesaw.

Cherokee County Sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker said investigators believe Pierce knew the suspects and think the shooting was drug-related.

Authorities say Pierce lived alone. The victim's father discovered his son's body and called 911.

PELHAM, Ala. -- Investigators believe two men arrested in Alabama last month are responsible for multiple car break-ins in metro Atlanta.

Oscar Moses Badger, 37, and Bobby Hanna, 24, were arrested Nov. 14 in Pelham, Ala. Police said they were caught trying to break into a car in a daycare center parking lot. They led Alabama authorities on a brief chase, but were soon captured.

Cherokee County (Ga.) Sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker said investigators believe Badger and Hanna are behind at least six car break-ins at local parks and daycare centers in early November.

They may also be responsible for thefts in Gwinnett County and Peachtree City, Baker said.

Badger and Hanna are both from south Florida. At their time of their Alabama arrest, they were out of jail on bond for similar crimes in Pennsylvania and Texas. Because of this, they are being held on $2 million bond.

Items stolen from church, schools found in Cherokee home

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Cherokee County sheriff's investigators recently found a number of stolen items on a suspect's property. The goods were reported stolen from a church and two school districts.

The items were discovered Tuesday by a sheriff's deputy who arrived at the home on Sugar Pike Road to serve court papers.

The deputy noticed a trailer on the lot, ran a license check and determined it had been reported stolen from North Central Area Missions in Woodstock in September, according to Cherokee County Sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker.

Sheriff's detectives executed a search warrant at the home. They discovered many more items taken from the church, including generators, nail guns, drills and saws, which were hidden in a crawl space; inflatable bounce houses; and popcorn machines.

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Two teenagers were arrested in Cherokee County Tuesday morning for breaking into cars.

Cherokee County Sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker said multiple car break-ins were reported in the Towne Lake Hills East subdivision off Towne Lake Parkway in Woodstock.

While interviewing victims, investigators noticed a suspicious car driving through the neighborhood and pulled it over.

Baker said two teenagers were in the car. Both were suspects in the car break-ins and were taken into custody.

Eric Mitcham, 18, was charged with three counts of entering auto and is being held in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on $17,100 bond.

4 men plead guilty to killing ex-Marine

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Four defendants pleaded guilty in Cobb County Superior Court Wednesday to beating and stomping a former Marine to death last year.

Zachary Gamble, 34, was taken off life support on Apr. 8, 2012, two weeks after he was attacked in the parking lot of a Smyrna apartment complex.

The men convicted of killing him are 38-year-old Arthur Batchelor of Acworth, 40-year-old Sean Hall of Mableton, 36-year-old Jason Hill of Woodstock and 37-year-old Tarell Secrest of Marietta.

All four pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and aggravated assault. They were each sentenced to 30 years, with 20 to be served in prison.

Couple charged with killing woman's daughter

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- A mother and her former boyfriend have been arrested in connection with the death of the woman's 17-month-old daughter.

Jamie Beck and Michael Naples were taken into custody Friday in Cherokee County. Both face charges of murder and cruelty to children.

The victim, Kaylee Johnson, was found dead on Oct. 14, 2012 at the bottom of a basement staircase at a house on Red Bird Way in Woodstock.

Beck, 23, of Bartow County was staying at the house with Naples, 31. She told police she got up in the middle of the night for a glass of water and found her daughter unresponsive.
