Home invasion suspects arrested

HOLLY SPRINGS, Ga. -- Holly Springs Police have arrested three suspects in connection with a violent home invasion.

One of the home's residents told police two men broke into his Amylou Circle home at around 2:30 a.m. Monday. When he tried to call 911, one of the suspects told him he'd kill him unless he told police everything was OK, according to Holly Springs Police spokesperson Tanya Anderson.

Police responded to the home anyway and saw a man waiting in a van parked outside the house. The man began a chase, which ended when police threw out stop sticks near the intersection of Towne Lake and Woodstock parkways, Anderson said. The driver was arrested and identified as Andra Westmoreland.

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- A Woodstock man was arrested Tuesday after police said he shot his son-in-law during an argument.

Cherokee County Sheriff's spokesman Howard Baker said 47-year-old Tony McDowell is accused of shooting 30-year-old Kamoana Hopeau of Blue Ridge when the latter arrived at McDowell's Bascomb Carmel Road home to pick up his child.

McDowell and Hopeau got into an argument, possibly over allegations of domestic violence between Hopeau and McDowell's daughter, Baker said. McDowell then shot Hopeau with a small caliber handgun.

Hopeau was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at WellStar Kennestone Hospital. He has since been released.

McDowell was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He is being held without bond in the Cherokee Adult Detention Center.
