ATLANTA –- As an official kickoff to the fall season, Pike Nurseries is hosting its annual Gardenfest event on Thursday, Sept. 25 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at all garden center locations.

While stocking up on autumn essentials, guests can take advantage of store-wide specials throughout the evening! 'Redneck' baker to visit metro Atlanta

(WXIA) -- "The American Baking Competition" finalist Francine Bryson has published her first cookbook, Blue Ribbon Baking from a Redneck Kitchen.

Bryson will be in metro Atlanta next week to promote the cookbook.

Blue Ribbon Baking is full of "Southern charm and sass," not to mention the coveted recipes Bryson learned from her "great-granny, granny, nana and mama." Highlights include upside-down apple pie, lemon squares and soda pop cake.

Bryson will be at FoxTale Book Shoppe (105 East Main Street, Woodstock) on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m., and Books-A-Million in The Avenue at Peachtree City on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.

PROBE College Fair coming to Cherokee County

PROBE College Fair coming to Cherokee County

CANTON, Ga. -- The popular PROBE College Fair will stop in Cherokee County next week, giving high school students an opportunity to speak directly to representatives from their favorite colleges and universities.

The fair will be Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cherokee High School in Canton.

A number of schools in several states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia and the Carolinas, will be represented. See a complete list of participating colleges.

The Paleo Mom to launch new cookbook in Woodstock

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- The Paleo Mom, also known as Dr. Sarah Ballantyne, will launch her second book at FoxTale Book Shoppe in Woodstock on Tuesday, August 26 at 6:30 p.m.

The official launch party and book signing will be catered, with all things Paleo-related of course, and will kick off The Paleo Approach Cookbook publication.

"We're thrilled to bring Dr. Sarah Ballantyne with her new cookbook to Woodstock and the entire metro Atlanta area," FoxTale co-owner Ellen Ward said. "Sarah's cookbook will show you tips and give suggestions, recipes and tricks on how to go Paleo."

Race this weekend: Run with the Chiefs

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- This year's Run with the Chief's 5K will be held at the new Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta mall.

The annual race raises money for Sequoyah High School's cross-country teams. All proceeds go to the Sequoyah Chiefs XC Booster Club to help pay for uniforms, race entry fees and travel expenses.

Run with the Chiefs will be Saturday, Aug. 2 at 8:30 a.m. Registration is $30 and can be completed online. This is the first year Run with the Chiefs will be an official AJC Peachtree Road Race qualifier with digital chip timing.

Prizes will be given to the top three male and female finishers, while the top two finishers in each age group will receive custom awards. All runners will be entered into a drawing to win special giveaways from Southwest Airlines and Chick-fil-A, among other race sponsors.

(WXIA) -- Pike Nurseries is offering two classes for customers who want to bring the outdoors into their homes.

On Saturday, July 19, Pike shoppers can attend a free terrarium and fairy garden class, where they will learn how to create and maintain glass gardens.

The class is free and will be held at every Pike Nurseries location at 9 a.m.

A similar class geared toward children will be hosted Wednesday, July 23 at 10 a.m., also at every Pike store. Children will make their own fairy gardens to take home. The class costs $14.99 per child.
