State superintendent honors Woodstock ES

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Georgia Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Barge recently visited Woodstock Elementary School to celebrate its being one of only four schools to win the state's Family-Friendly Partnership School Award.

The honor is given to schools with a large number of low-income students that consistently provide excellent customer service.

To celebrate Dr. Barge's visit, students, teachers, parents and community representatives learned a special song, "Woodstock of My Heart," which was written by city historian Juanita Hughes.

Barge was also treated to a red carpet welcome, a tour of the school and an assembly in his honor.

"I am amazed at what you have done and what you are doing," Barge said to school leaders during his visit. "Most importantly, families are respected. My hope is that every school will be able to learn from you all."

Woodstock Elementary principal Kim Montalbano said the focus on family is behind her school's success.

"It does take a village to raise a child, and we have many partners who work together to make a difference," she said. "Our hard work has definitely paid off."
