ATLANTA -- Fresh on the heels of "Atlanta's Job Fair for All" on Tuesday came a chance for job-seeking education on Wednesday.

Georgia's Department of Labor reached out to job seekers and employers with a 90-minute online chat session, which ended at 1 p.m.

They want to make known all the resources the department has at its disposal.

"Many people think of state departments of labor as 'unemployment offices'," said Dept. of Labor spokesperson Sam Hall. "It's important they understand that we provide a wide range of services."

GDOL said those include "recruiting assistance, help exploring careers, jobs, help with layoffs at companies, education, training and re-training, tax credit information, unemployment insurance, veterans services, information about labor trends, salaries, 'hot' occupations, resume-writing, assistive technology or accommodations for disabilities, bonding assistance, support services such as childcare and transportation while in training, space for interviewing job applicants, financial aid information, on-the-job training, help coping with unemployment, information about unemployment taxes and benefits, incentives to help businesses grow, help in cutting the costs of hiring new employees, and earning while learning."

For more on their services, visit GDOL's website.

Since 11Alive has focused major efforts on reporting Georgia's jobs crisis, employers have occasionally reached out and informed us of jobs that are available. As we receive those notices, we will pass them to you.

For example, a spokesperson for the Technology Association of Georgia e-mailed us to say there are about 5,000 openings for tech jobs across the state. Among the companies listed as having openings were:

  • Manhattan Associates: 92 jobs to be added by year's end
  • Greenway Medical Technologies: 60 job openings
  • AirWatch: 50+ hires before the end of the year
  • Sage: 50 openings in the next four months
