BEST SPOTS: Dog Parks | People

Title (Max 100 Characters)

ACWORTH, Ga. -- For this week's edition of Best Spots, we have compiled a list of dog parks for you to take you furry friend for some fun.

Recently, dog parks have been sprouting up in the Atlanta area. With newly modified leash law restrictions, owners who may or may not have yards need a place for their dogs to run free and get adequate daily exercise.

Some say, these parks are becoming more popular as the country begins placing more of an emphasis on health following the First Lady’s “Let’s Move” initiative.

Dog owners in Acworth can take their furry children to the Pitner Road Dog Park for off-leash fun. The park has about two acres of run space for large dogs and one acre for small dogs. There are, also, a couple of doggie water fountains for thirsty pups and a wooded bench area for owners to sit and watch their dog at play. The park provides stations for “poop” pick up and also has a playground for your human child. The park is located at 2450 Pitner Road in Acworth.

Sweat Mountain Park in East Cobb is a popular dog park, among locals. This park designates two fenced in areas for their four-legged friends; one for small dogs and one for larger dogs. The area around the park is shaded, fenced and has water fountains for dogs and thirsty owners. This park also offers a number of doggie bags stations for waste pickup. The park is located at 4346 Steinhauer Road in Marietta.

Located inside the Swift-Cantrell Park, the Frank Boone Dog Park is always active with neighbors and pets. This 1.4 acre, off-leash Park has a dog wash area, waste bags and receptacle stations. There are two separate run stations for large and small dogs. The park is open from sunrise until sunset. Frank Boone is located at 3140 Old 41 Highway in Kennesaw.

Be sure to take photos of you and your dog at the park, this weekend, and send them to photos@11alive.com. Next week, the “Where U Live” team will compile a list of BEST SPOTS for Neighborhood Thrift Stores.
