WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Mary Hood, award-winning author and former Woodstock resident, will be at FoxTale Book Shoppe on Thursday, April 11th at 6:30pm.  Hood does not make many appearances and FoxTale Book Shoppe co-owner Ellen Ward said, "What an honor to have Mary Hood visit Woodstock and FoxTale Book Shoppe! Sen. Brandon Beach visits Bascomb ES

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Georgia Sen. Brandon Beach (R-Alpharetta) recently visited Woodstock's Bascomb Elementary School to read to students.

Beach entertained second graders and special needs students, and answered all their questions about life under the Gold Dome. He also learned about the students' preparations for an upcoming school play about Georgia.

In addition to being a senator, Beach is president and CEO of the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, which will hold its annual gala in Buckhead this weekend.

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Georgia Senator John Albers (R-Roswell) has canceled a town hall meeting he planned to hold in Woodstock later this week.

Albers canceled the Thursday, Mar. 14 meeting early Monday afternoon. A new date was not immediately announced.

Woodstock HS welcomes new principal

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Dr. Paul Weir has been named Woodstock High School's new principal.

Weir replaces Bill Sebring, who recently accepted a job as an assistant superintendent with the Cherokee County School District.

According to Weir's LinkedIn page, he has previously worked as an assistant principal at Woodstock High, as well as Cherokee High and Teasley Middle, which are also in Cherokee County. He worked in Forsyth County and for Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools in the past.

Woodstock High named a new assistant principal to replace Weir -- Mike Manzella, who oversees fine art, career tech and math at the school.

Author River Jordan to teach writing class at FoxTale Book Shoppe

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Author, speaker and radio host River Jordan will be teaching a writing class on Saturday, January 26th from 1-4pm at FoxTale Book Shoppe. Jordan gained initial popularity with readers through her well-received works of magical realism, the novels, The Messenger of Magnolia Street, The Miracle of Mercy Land and Saints in Limbo. But it was through the highly acclaimed publication of her first non-fiction narrative, Praying for Strangers, that she launched a new phase of her career as a bit of a spiritual guru.
