FoxTale Book Shoppe to offer AP World History exam prep class

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- FoxTale Book Shoppe is excited to offer its first-ever AP Test Prep class on Saturday, April 13th from 2:00pm to 3:30pm. The class is aimed at high school students about to take the APWH exam this May and teachers looking to enrich their curriculum. The focus is to help students prepare with a purpose to maximize their score. The class will be taught by author and former AP World History teacher, Suzanne Litrel.

Etowah HS Academic Team wins state championship

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- The Etowah High School Academic Team is this year's state champion.

The Eagles competed against several top-ranked teams to take home their first-ever crown at the Georgia Academy Team Association's Varsity State Tournament on Mar. 23.

They won the day with a 9-0 record.

Etowah High will now go on to compete in the national championship next month.

20 Cherokee students chosen for Governor's Honors

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- Students from all six Cherokee County high schools have been selected for the prestigious Governor's Honors Program.

The annual four-week program gives some of Georgia's best and brightest teens the opportunity to study areas in which they excel.

Nearly 3,000 students were nominated for GHP. That number was whittled down to 690 finalists who will attend the program at Valdosta State University this summer.

"Governor's Honors Program is such a competitive program that even being nominated is an accomplishment," program director Dale Lyles said in a statement. "I congratulate the students of Cherokee County School District and look forward to meeting them and their parents in June."

Boston ES raises $2,800 through Jump Rope for Heart

Boston ES raises $2,800 through Jump Rope for Heart

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Students at Boston Elementary School recently participated in Jump Rope for Heart.

The annual event raises money for the American Heart Association. This is the Woodstock school's 11th year hosting a Jump Rope for Heart event.

Altogether, Boston Elementary students raised $2,822. The school's top fundraiser was first grader Kaitlyn Swift, who collected pledges for $225.

"We are very proud of (the students') hard work and dedication to such a worthy community service project," Boston Elementary principal Joey Moss said in a statement.

Sen. Brandon Beach visits Bascomb ES

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Georgia Sen. Brandon Beach (R-Alpharetta) recently visited Woodstock's Bascomb Elementary School to read to students.

Beach entertained second graders and special needs students, and answered all their questions about life under the Gold Dome. He also learned about the students' preparations for an upcoming school play about Georgia.

In addition to being a senator, Beach is president and CEO of the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, which will hold its annual gala in Buckhead this weekend.

Carmel Elementary appreciates Student Ambassadors

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Carmel Elementary School's Student Ambassadors play an important role at the school each day.

They have welcomed all of Carmel's new students by implementing the Carmel Welcome Bag Program ensuring that new students feel at home at Carmel right away.

In addition, they have had the important daily task of raising and lowering the flags that fly in front of Carmel. They have even served as greeters and guides for the annual grandparents' breakfast.
