CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- Four Cherokee County schools placed in the regional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl in Gainesville last weekend.

R.M. Moore Elementary School won the elementary school division, while Creekland Middle School took the top prize for the middle school division.

Cherokee County can also boast two second-place teams -- Teasley Middle School finished just behind Creekland, and Woodstock High School came in second in the high school division.

All four schools advanced to the divisional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl, where they will face Cobb County's winning teams, on Feb. 23.

The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl is named for a former DeKalb County school librarian who started a quiz-style competition to encourage her students to read. Schools across Georgia participate in the annual event.
